BIORAFFINERIE Elsteraue GMBH

BIORAFFINERIE Elsteraue GMBH

The biorefinery Elsteraue GmbH operates a plant for the production of biomethane in the Zeitz Chemical and Industrial Park. The plant was put into operation in late 2011. From maize, beet and other renewable resources, biogas is produced which is then further refined to natural gas quality. The biomethane thus produced is fed into the public natural gas grid. The systemic concept was designed and developed by the energy service provider and project developer GETEC AG from Magdeburg. The biorefinery Elsteraue GmbH has invested around 10 million euros in the construction of the plant. There are around 45,000 tonnes of gas (fermented biomass) and 650 m³ / h of so-called green gas fed annually into the grid of Stadtwerke Zeitz. The biomass is sourced locally by the partner AGRICOLA GmbH & Co. KG. This eliminates long transportation routes, which in turn protects the climate.
